Stranded Knitting and Steeking Class

Be careful, this project is addicting, you may find yourself making more than one - they make wonderful gifts!

Stranded knitting (sometimes called Fair Isle) is a knitting technique used to create patterns using multiple colors of yarn. The use of multiple colors makes the knitted fabric look quite complex. But don’t be fooled! Only two colors are used in any given row and the knitting is usually worked in the round making it easy to see the pattern.

Steeking is a Scottish word meaning to fasten or close. It is the steek that allows a knitter to work stranded knitting in the round and still knit a cardigan. The steek creates a place in the knitting that can be cut to create an opening after the knitting is completed, turning a pullover into a cardigan!

For this class we will be using Steek This Coffee Cozy to learn stranded knitting and steeking.
